The good news is that the Blues are starting to regain their health on defense. The bad news is that it may still be a game or two until Jay Bouwmeester (concussion) and Carl Gunnarsson (upper-body) are back to full health. Both players skated on Sunday, but Gunnarsson has already been ruled out for Monday’s game against the Penguins while Bouwmeester’s status will be decided on the day of the game.
Concussions vary greatly depending on the player, but it’s pretty crazy that Bouwmeester is nearing a return roughly a week after suffering the injury. Other similar injuries have sidelined skaters for months, if not longer. Concussions are impossible to predict.
To play things safe as far as their depth is concerned, the Blues have recalled 32-year-old defenseman Andre Benoit from the AHL.
