Week 1 is in the books for the Big East. Instead of just doing a power rankings piece, let’s dive into everything Big East. This is a way of saying that power rankings are a little boring, especially after just 1 week.
Game Recap:
Cincinnati 72 Austin Peay 10 – This game is covered here.
Louisville 21 Murray State 9 – The Cardinals busted out to a 21-0 lead behind 2 Will Stein TD passes. The Cards D got 3 interceptions to quell any Murray State comeback hopes.
South Florida 23 Notre Dame 20 – USF used a 96 yard fumble recovery for a TD to power a 16-0 lead. BJ Daniels hit Evan Landi for a TD early in the 4th quarter to push the margin to 23-7. USF gave up 500 yards, but got 5 turnovers to spark the win.
Pittsburgh 35 Buffalo 16 – After a slow first half, the Panthers took to the ground the second, scoring 28 of their 35 points. Ray Graham had 201 of the 231 Panther rushing yards. Former Bearcat Chazz Anderson was 32-49, 276, 1 INT, 16 rush yards, 1 TD.
West Virginia 34 Marshall 13 – The Mountaineers rode a pair of Geno Smith TD passes to a 20-10 halftime lead. After Marshall kicked a FG to make it 20-13, Tavon Austin broke a kick return 100 yards. The game was shortened by storms.
Rutgers 48 North Carolina Central 0 – The Scarlet Knight defense scored 2 TDs and held Central to 120 yards in the dominating shut out.
Syracuse 36 Wake Forest 29 (OT) – The first OT game of the year was a good one. Syracuse was down 29-14 with 8:26 to go in the game. Ryan Nassib hit 2 TD passes in a minute and a half to tie the score though. The Orange had a shot to win in regulation, but had a field goal blocked. In OT, Nassib found Van Chew for the game winner.
Connecticut 35 Fordham 3 – The Huskies ran for 206 of their 434 yards, and gave up only 8 first downs in the blowout.
