WARRIORS PRACTICE FACILITY, OAKLAND, CA — “Ugly,” is how last season Golden State Warriors assistant coach Luke Walton would describe every Draymond Green three-pointer. Walton made sure Green heard it, loudly, from the bench.
Now that Steve Kerr has been given a leave of absence and Walton has assumed the interim head coach role, will Walton’s trash-talking continue?
But, of course!
“We built a way we like doing things and trash-talking’s included in that,” Walton told LetsGoWarriors matter-of-factly, just in case we weren’t quite sure if the trash-talking wasn’t designed to be a positive rather than a negative. “Draymond plays better when you talk trash to him. It’s not like if I talk trash to him he’ll go into a shell and can never make a shot because I talked trash to him. I talk trash to him to get him to play better, play more efficient, and it works with him.”
