Today, I was able to interview Penn State wide receiver commit Juwan Johnson. Johnson committed to Penn State over schools such as Alabama. In the interview we discuss his thoughts on Penn State’s recruiting, his goals for the upcoming season and more!

DC: How would you describe your style of game in a two or three sentences?

“I am a smooth player with speed and make big plays when it matters and I have pretty good hands. That also has a good IQ of football.”

DC: How excited are you about the future of the program and what the new staff brings to it?

” I’m very excited because they are a fresh energetic group of people. They bring something new to the program that everyone can get through the sanctions. “

DC: What about James Franklin do you believe makes him such a great recruiter?

“He is honest with his recruits. He doesn’t sugar it up. Not too demand and he is also laid back but when you become his player he expects a lot out of you when your a lion.”

DC: Goals for upcoming season?

“Reach 1,000 yards receiving, become a better and outspoken leader. Be more dedicated and motivated.”

DC: What about Penn State do you believe makes it the “place to be”?

” The atmosphere. The fans and the people there is amazing! It really is a big happy family. Everyone has your back. No even mentioning the academics which is great.”

DC: What was the deciding factor in your decision?

“It was really where I felt most comfortable at. My parents and my family felt comfortable with it. It was also close to home, and I fell I’d have the best 4 years at PSU”

DC: You had great offers including from Alabama, besides being close to home, what pulled you away from Alabama?

“Not the type of program I wanted to be in. Alabama is a great program but I honestly wanted to get a great educated while I’m in college.”

DC: What was it like being invited to “The Opening?”

“My mindset coming into the camp wasn’t to get invited to The Open. My intention was to learn new techniques to better my game. But I was in awe when I found out I was invited.. Truly a blessing”

DC: What player(s) do you try to emulate?

“Definitely Calvin Johnson. People say I’m lil megaton or Optimus prime. I watch his highlights ALL the time”

DC: Will you be visiting PSU anytime in the future for a camp or for a game?

“For a camp would be a good answer for now and I will be following up for a game as well”

DC: What Big Ten team are you most looking forward to playing and why?

“Wisconsin & Rutgers.Wisconsin because my high school close friend goes there now Corey  Clement. And Rutgers because there in NJ and I’m a jersey guy.
