Part 2/3 of our interview with Accelerate Basketball
If you missed part one of our interview with Accelerate Basketball make sure you check it out here. In part two of our interview we discuss a number of Accelerate’s regulars such as Sean May, Seth Curry & Antawn Jamison.
James: One name that really interests me is Sean May, what’s the latest on him?
BP: Sean is actually doing really really well, he’s been shooting the ball EXTREMELY well, his footwork has been OUTSTANDING and his willingness to do some new things, try some new drills and do things he hasn’t done in the past has been outstanding. His conditioning level right now is good, so Sean’s in a really good position to have an outstanding position wherever he may end up playing.
JP: When you say there is a question where he ends up is that between the NBA and Europe, or just different teams in Europe?
BP: I don’t know what his contract situation is in Europe, with the guys we get in we don’t really get into contract talk.
JP: I imagine it’s the last thing they want to discuss.
BP: Yeah, were in the moment, we’re in there for two hours and were just trying to help them get better in that time frame.
JP: Another name I would like to ask you about is Seth Curry, obviously he went undrafted, can you give us any updates about how he has looked?
BP: Seth is another one who has been in very very regularly, he has even been going through some two a days. He has been shooting the ball of course very very well, you know he has really been working on his ball handling, and I think he is an underrated ball handler from my personal point of view. I think he handles the ball extremely well, well enough to be a lead at the NBA level. He had a setback with his surgery, you know after the college season was over so it has been a little bit of a balancing act between his rehab and his workouts and trying to get better while making sure we aren’t pushing him too hard. I feel like, anyone who shoots the ball like he does there’s probably a place for him in the NBA and I think it’s just a matter of making the right roster make up for him to go in and make a team. I think that all you have to do is look at his dad and brother and you know what the Curry’s can do, they can shoot the basketball and I think that there’s a place for him in the league.
JP: I have seen some stories linking him to Charlotte, any news on that?
BP: To be honest James you know about as much as I do, like I said before we don’t really get into that, we have talked about it in passing but we haven’t sat down with him. All we know is the dates are coming up for him to workout for people so we are just doing are best to get him ready for that
JP: I just want to touch on one of the names you mentioned before, Antawn Jamison. Word around the league is he is getting older, is he going to slow down? From a training standpoint what would you say on that?
BP: I would say absolutely not, Antawn Jamison (laughs) actually we just came out of a workout a couple of hours ago with him and Antawn was outstanding today. You know, he had surgery on his wrist as soon as the season was over, three days after the cast was off and you could hardly tell he had surgery. He has been tremendous this entire off season, his movement has been very very good, his motivation and drive to play the game at a high level is just as much there as it has ever been. I would even argue that he has probably been shooting the ball better this off season this off season better than any other off season we have worked with him. He really is hungry to win, he really, really wants to win. When you got a guy who comes out of UNC, played for Dean Smith and played at such a high level while he was in college, he still has that feeling he wants to get that feeling back. Whatever team gets him is going to get a leader and a guy who is still capable of getting 20-25+ and he can do that on back to back nights. He is in a good place physically, I think the world of Antawn Jamison. To have a guy who has been in the league that long and still has the motivation to come in and work with us, trust us I think the world of him and he has been a huge help to our company, as well as Stephan [Curry] and Anthony [Morrow]. To have a Vet like Antawn come in has been a huge help to us.
JP: It sounds like he is ready to go better than ever? It will be interesting to see where he ends up.
BP: Of course any player who has a little age on him physically things have changed, but he knows the game and has been able to change the way he plays to really continue to be successful in the league, whoever gets him is getting a guy ready to win.
JP: I think that’s a sign of a talented player who knows the game, someone who can adapt to a changing situation and change his style of play to fit. Some people struggle as soon as they lose their athleticism.
BP: I still feel really good about Antawn in ball screen situations, I mean he can stretch the floor because he hits that three point shot with great consistency. People forget he played the last half of last season injured, right before the all star game was when that wrist injury occurred, he played a large proportion of that season injured and in A LOT of pain, he is healthy now and ready to go.
BB: His Ball handling is better now than it ever was, that is just a testament to who he is and how he has the ability to stay in the league and keep improving his game.
