Interview With Clark County Vipers’ Michael Souder

Clark County VipersMany times in football the attention of the media surrounding an organization focuses mostly on the players on the field. With the tales of scoring or that huge defensive stand, the acts of the players both excite and inspire us. However, without the people who make the day to day decisions in the front office and behind the scenes, these acts would never have even happened. So, with that in mind, today I spotlight Clark County Vipers’ very own Michael Souder.

Me: So Mike, what is your position with the team? What does that position on and off the field entitle?

Mike: I hold many roles with the Clark County Vipers.  I am a player on both the offensive and defensive line, I am a board member, a player rep for the players union, team captain, and I assist my wife, Catherine Souder, in running and maintaining the Vipers website as well as the Assistant Director of Football Operations.

Me: How does your experience on the field each week help you when dealing with some of the front office work?

Mike: With my hands in many aspect of the team, I am very busy.  Everything that I do is for the betterment of the Vipers.

Me: Where do you see the Vipers organization heading in the future and what would you like to see the team do to connect more with the fans and the community?

Mike: This team has so much potential and talent on and off of the field.  I see this team becoming leading example of what a semi-pro team not only in the Northwest, but all over the county should be. The Viper organization already works with amazing charities such as the North American Kids Foundation, Food Bank of Clark County, Bridge the Gap, the Arc of Clark County and Clark County Youth Football.

I would love to see the Vipers start working with Habitat for Humanity, building homes in the Clark County area.  We are also in works to set up a week long summer football camp for the youth of Clark County area.  In this camp, the Vipers would work on and help coach you on the fundamentals of football and proper sportsmanship on and off of the field.

Me: The website looks great by the way, what new additions or features can we look forward to in the future?

Mike: The website is a new venture for the Vipers.  My wife should get all of the credit for it.  She is working on making it interactive.

Me: I want to give you the ability to touch base on anything else you would like to say to the fans or players, the floor is yours.

Mike: I would like to invite anyone who is a fan of football to come out and enjoy a great game.  We are continually looking to improve as an organization.  If anyone feels like they can be an asset to the Vipers on or off the field, I would encourage them to contact us at [email protected].

Thank you for being able to take the time to answer some of my questions for me Mike as I know you are usually really busy. If anyone has a player, coach, or a member of the Vipers’ organization in general that they would like to hear from, please feel free to shoot me an email ([email protected]) and I will see about getting your questions answered.

Don’t forget Clark County and Portland fans to keep checking in with the Vipers’ website www.clarkcountyvipers.com for all the news and announcements involving the team, cheerleaders, and the players.
