This South Carolina Gamecocks blog recently conducted an interview with Justin King. He is Gamecock fans favorite video producer as he continues to put forth videos that capture the energy and faith in Gamecock sports.
Here is my Q&A with him –
1. As a graduate of the University of South Carolina, what is your favorite memory at the campus (non-sports related)?
The first thing that immediately jumps out as an awesome memory for me would be Tuesday night’s at Wild Hare in the vista for “Wing Night”. We used to have 20-30 guys from Phi Sigma Kappa all there just hanging out and talking until the wings came. Then it got real quiet. On the physical campus itself my favorite memories would have to be the random games of ultimate frisbee on the Strom fields. Also the library during finals week…that was where the party was.
2. What are you doing now in life besides making stellar videos?
After graduation, got a job with ESPN but I am no longer there. I took a job recently as a Producer/Editor for a production company in San Antonio and am starting school in the spring to get my MBA. My time with ESPN was awesome and I was told I will always be given extra consideration when I apply for another job there. I also have gotten married recently.
3. You help to provide energy and excitement through your Gamecock highlight videos. Which of your videos is your favorite?
Each one of those videos are my babies really, choosing a favorite is tough. Some were much harder to make than others, and I feel with each one I have learned more and more. That being said my favorite is probably the one that was the easiest to make, the Florida video. It was just such an incredibly epic win that the video basically made itself. Im also really fond of the recent video for the baseball team, and that one took the most work.
4. Provide some insight on current projects you are working on and what can Gamecock fans expect from you this football season…
Over the past few months, I have been primarily focusing on my career and my new marriage, but as it has gotten closer to September 3rd I have been putting more and more time into prep work for the season. That includes editing the introductions to videos and coordinating with Eric Nichols (Director of Marketing at USC) and Eric Hyman, both of whom are extraordinarily excited themselves for what is to come. My goal for this season is to give Gamecock Nation the greatest videos in the country. The football team has put in an intense amount of work and dedication and I plan on doing the same.
5. As someone that “bleeds garnet,” what our your thoughts about the 2011 season and what is your definition of success for the football team in 2011?
The 2011 season is going to be incredible. The players and coaches know what they want and know what they have to do to get it. This team is unlike any I have ever seen at USC before; they are poised, mature, and dedicated. Everyone looks at the heart of the baseball team and where it took them and I am seeing the same type of heart in players like Marcus Lattimore, Stephon Gilmore, and Alshon Jeffery. There are countless others on this team who can be mentioned as well. Everyone seems to believe in hard work, and when that is the case, you can’ t go wrong. My definition of success is the same one the football team has stated they have: to be the SEC Champions.
