Interview With the Buffalo

Happy Tuesday Cougar Fans!

As I am sure many of you know by now, the University of Colorado is officially the newest member of the Pacific Ten Conference.  Now allow me to get off track for just a second – what do you think the name of the conference will become?  The Pac-11?  The Pac-12, perhaps, if Utah is really the next shoe to drop? Or will things stay as-is?

Anyway, that is a story for another day.  Back to the topic at hand.

My wonderful and amazing girlfriend, DaniBuff, is a native Washingtonian, but attended (and graduated) from the University of Colorado.  I wanted to get her take on everything Buffalo, so without further ado, here is her take on the Buffs move to our conference.

LucasCoug: Thanks for your time this morning DaniBuff, let’s get down to business.  First of all, welcome to the Pac 10, what can you tell us about your Buffs?

DaniBuff: Thank you!  Everyone is pretty excited about this.  My “sports” perspective is pretty limited, but I can tell you that gamedays at Colorado are still, hands-down, some of my best memories from CU (ok, ok, and in my life).

LC: What can you tell Cougar and other Pac 10 fans to expect if and when they visit Boulder for a football game?

DB: Fun, Fun, Fun!  Boulder is gorgeous!  It is a college-kid’s fantasy (haha, ok, ok, and the fantasy of post college “kids” pretending they’re still living the dream).  Hopefully the Cougs will get to play a game out there in the fall before it gets too cold.  On a sunny day with the Flatiron Mountains in the background, Folsom Field really shines.

LC: Wow, that is beautiful.  It reminds me of Pullman, at 5,000 feet.  Pretty sure us Cougs could handle a cold weather game in Boulder.  Just ask UCLA how much they love playing at Martin Stadium after October.  Well Dani, what are some places to stay, eat, drink that you would recommend in Boulder?

DB: If you want to treat yourself well, definitely stay at the St. Julien.  Otherwise there are lots of hotels that are within walking distance of everything.  Going out, I would recommend hitting up the spot known as The Hill, which is the area just west of campus.  It is very college-y.

LC: Did you just invent a word, college-y?

DB: You know what I mean.  While there, make sure to get some drinks at The Sink.  You just HAVE to go there.  Half-Fast Subs is killer eats, and even better pitchers; try a Strongisland or the Hurricane.  Whatever you do, don’t eat at K’s-China, but order a Volcano and make sure to sit out on their roof to enjoy the view of those Flatirons!  The 21+ crew will hit up Pearl Street after the game at night, and is an area to get a nice bite to eat.  Basically if you want a dive bar, a sophisticated cocktail, or a dance party, you can find it there!

LC: Your first year at CU the Cougs made an appearance for their third game of the season, coming off a heartbreaking loss at Notre Dame the week before (thanks a lot Drew Dunning).  What can you tell us about that game?

DB: Haha, um, not much.  Well other than a lot of harassing phone calls I received from high school friends who were at Wazzu.  I think those came after you guys scored a touchdown on a kickoff return?

LC: You know what a kickoff returned for a touch down is?  That’s progress D.  Anyways, the outcome of that game was never really in doubt as the Cougs won 47-26.  Don’t worry WSU football is lightyears removed from 2003.  Anyways, your Buffs have never played in Pullman, all though they were scheduled to play there September 15th, 2001, but it was cancelled in the wake of 9/11.

DB: I am SUPER excited about going to Pullman!  I have been subjected to listening to all of you Cougs reminisce about Pullman the last few year – I want to see if it lives up to all of the hype.

LC: The hype is very real…

LC: Now that you are conference rivals with the majority of your friends (including me), how do you see this impacting your relationships with them?

DB: I love a good rivalry.  Besides, it’s been lonely up here in the Northwest being a Buff and having (let’s be honest here) nobody care about them.  I may be far from a sports expert, but give me a beer and a tailgate, and I am happy to have friends around, no matter who they are rooting for.  Obviously though, the coolest ones will be rooting for the Buffs!

Interview With the Buffalo

LC: Tell us about your mascot, Ralphie.

DB: I love Ralphie!  At the beginning of every game they bring him out and he runs down the middle of the field.  Super cool, and super fun!

Thanks for your time DaniBuff, we look forward to catching up with you in the future.

Have a great rest of the day Cougar fans!
