This Friday, Invicta FC returns to Kansas City, Missouri for Invicta FC 12. This card features some of Invicta FC’s fastest rising talent and should make for a thrilling night of fights. The bout order is as follows:

  • Flyweight:Roxanne Modafferi (17-11) vs. Vanessa Porto (17-6)

  • Flyweight: Shannon Sinn (1-2) vs. Maureen Riordon (0-1)
  • Bantamweight: Gina Begley (0-0) vs. Sijara Eubanks (0-0)

2014 featherweight fighter of the year Amanda Bell will be representing the Pacific Northwest at this event. Coming off a career year, Bell will look to keep her name on the short list of featherweight title contenders with a victory Friday night. Her most recent victory over Maria Djursaa showed a killer instinct that is second to none inside the Invicta cage as she pummeled her opponent. Friday night, Bell will be taking on a newcomer to the Invicta cage in Faith Van Duin. Van Duin comes to Invicta from New Zealand sporting a four and one record. She is coming into this bout off a loss and it will be very important for her to get a win and establish herself in the US if she hopes to make a push for a title shot by early 2016. A loss to Bell is nothing to be ashamed of but make no mistake, the opportunity here is all Van Duin’s.

A strawweight title fight between Katja Kankaanpää and Livia Souza headlines this card. This fight will be the first defense of the belt for new champion Katja “Killer Bunny” Kankaanpää. Kankaanpää has proven throughout her career that she has a well-rounded skill set and is happy to fight standing up or on the mat. Many have called her title fight with Stephanie Eggink one of the greatest WMMA fights of all time. Coming off a performance that received such high praise many are expecting big things from Kankaanpää. The champion will have her hands full on Friday night as she takes on an undefeated submission ace in Livia Souza. Souza has won six of her seven fights by submission with five of those submissions coming in the first round. Kankaanpää is no slouch on the ground but Souza has the advantage of being trained by a seven-time world champion jiu jitsu instructor in Andre Galvao. Kankaanpää will have to have sharp takedown defense and be able to get her combinations going if she hopes to keep the belt around her waist. This fight should be an exclamation point to end the night.

From start to finish, this card has an excellent mix of old and new talent that should make for an exciting night. Fan favorite and WMMA veteran Roxanne Modafferi makes her return to the cage, the young upstart champion Katja “Killer Bunny” Kankaanpää looks to make her first title defense, and the fighting pride of Hubbard, Oregon, Amanda Bell, looks to make it four wins in a row as she inches closer to a title shot. The way this card has stacked up, it seems silly not to watch. If you are looking for a cheap date on Friday night, cough up $10.00 and check out this card.
