Earlier this week, news broke that Oklahoma quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray, was expected to enter the NFL Draft later this year.
This was already expected to be Murray’s final season playing football after agreeing to terms with the Oakland Athletics, who drafted Murray in the 1st round of last year’s MLB Draft. A signing bonus and agreement between the two parties allowed Murray to play one season at Oklahoma before turning to baseball.
But then Murray put up numbers and won a lot of games for the Sooners, and things quickly changed.
Leading Oklahoma to a Big 12 Championship and an appearance in the College Football playoffs, Murray lit up Alabama to the tune of three scores (two passing and one rushing), 300 yards passing, and 100 yards rushing. And even though the Sooners lost, Murray left a buzz. People were talking. Media was talking. Scouts were talking.
“Can the kid play in the NFL?” “Would he come back?” “Could he come back?”
All this talk started, and over a week after the game, the reports broke of Murray’s intention to enter the NFL Draft.
Now the next question is- is Murray a 1st round pick?
People are already having debates about Murray playing in the NFL. Some have even argued if he could go 1st overall to Arizona after an interview with new head coach Kliff Kingsbury surfaced from last year stating that he’d select Murray 1st overall if he had the chance to.

Still, nothing is official yet. Scouts will have their doubts of a 5’10 quarterback in the NFL, although history has proven that even combine nightmare passers like Murray can succeed in the NFL (Drew Brees, Doug Flutie, Fran Tarkenton).
He’s exciting, he can ball, and if he indeed does enter the NFL Draft, there’s a good chance that he goes in the first round.
How about 1st overall to Kingsburry’s Cardinals who selected Josh Rosen in the 1st round last season?
