Pete Carroll seems to have a knack for finding exceptional talent from his college draft picks. He found Russell Wilson, who has become a Super Bowl winning quarterback and Pro Bowl MVP. Now much of the talk in Seattle has been about the explosive talent of Tyler Lockett.
Lockett started out as a kick returner (4.4 40 yard dash) and he burst onto the scene with his speed and agility, and I think most Seattle Seahawk fans won’t forget his 105-yard kick return against the Chicago Bears. He might have become my favorite player to watch on offense. I almost expect him to get a touchdown every time he gets the ball in his hands. The 5’10”, 182-pound, 23-year-old rookie had six touchdowns this year as a receiver and he averages 26.6 yards a carry on return yards.
Lockett set 17 school records at Kansas State. He had 249 receptions as a wide receiver and 3,710 receiving yards, 29 touchdowns and 17 games of 100 yards or more. He also had 2,196 yards as a kick returner. Lockett has had no problems continuing his prolific skills from college to the pros.
Lockett reminds me of when the Seahawks had Percy Harvin. The level of excitement seems to increase tenfold when he’s on the field, and when he lines up in formation as a wide receiver, I can’t help but jump out of my seat when Russell Wilson connects with him on a deep pass.
It seems to me that the Seahawks have acquired three great offensive weapons, with Thomas Rawls, Jimmy Graham and Lockett. And I can’t wait to see Lockett juke defenders out of their pants as he speeds away for a touchdown.
I think Seahawk fans can be quite optimistic when thinking of next season. With the new offensive weapons they have acquired on offense (all of whom had good numbers their first season with the team) I think it’s more than just hopeful thinking that the Seahawks will have another Super Bowl run next season.
