According to coach Michael Malone, Sacramento Kings starting point guard Isaiah Thomas underwent an MRI on his sore right quad on Tuesday and is out again tonight when the Kings play the Lakers.
“He had an MRI yesterday and I can’t give you the complete full medical terms,” Malone said during pregame. “But all I know is that it is a very deep thigh bruise and there is still a lot of swelling in there.”
Thomas played in the team’s first 70 games before taking a knee to the thigh from Milwaukee Bucks big man Zaza Pachulia on March 23. After tonight’s contest against the Lakers, Thomas will have missed five straight games and is questionable for Friday’s matchup with the Golden State Warriors.
The former University of Washington star is having a breakout season for Sacramento this season, averaging 20.7 points and 6.4 assists in 35 minutes per game.
“He wants to be back,” Malone said. “But at this stage of the season, we’re not going to rush him back and risk further injury. And on the other side of that, obviously, Ray McCallum has done a great job for us, so we’ll allow him to play those minutes.”
In Thomas’ absence, McCallum is averaging 15.3 points, 7.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 45.3 minutes per game.
