Islanders Motivated By Rangers

John Jeansonne at Newsday has these quotes from the Islanders on getting extra motivated to play the Rangers tonight:

Mark Streit…

“We played two bad games, two losses, and we want to bounce back. And there’s nothing better than playing the Rangers at home. It’s going to be a great atmosphere, and they’re having a great season so far, so it’s a big challenge for us. But we’re up to it and we’re looking forward to it.”

P.A. Parenteau on facing his former team…

“I have a lot of respect for that team. They’re doing really well this year, they’re well-coached. But it brings the best out of everybody, and especially myself. And it’s going to be a battle.”

…growing up in the 80s and 90s there was nothing better than Rangers/Islanders. With both teams struggling the last 15 years or so (especially the Islanders) this rivalry has gone by the wayside with the Devils and Flyers now seen as the Blueshirts most hated opponents.

…which is a shame. I find myself rooting for the Islanders sometimes just to revive one of the best rivalries in all of sports.
