The Red Sox stumble out of the starting gate is not the fault of any one player; there is plenty of blame to go around. The starting pitching has not been very good, and every starter has had at least one bad start this season. The offense has failed to come up with the big hit game after game. Ortiz, Drew, Martinez, and Youk are all hitting far below their career averages. The defense has been bad with costly errors in more than one game, this however can partially be blamed on Ellsbury’s injury. The Red Sox are playing well below their ability but it is not yet time to panic. Give the new players some time to adjust to Fenway Park, let the slow starters get their swings back, and wait for the rotation to find some consistency. About the only move the Red Sox should think about is bringing Reddick up to play some outfield while Ellsbury and Cameron recover. The team collectively got itself into this situation and it will collectively get itself out of this situation. Remember how the Yankees started last season? Look how they ended up.
