ESPN is the biggest thing in sports, bigger than Lebron, bigger than Tim Tebow, hell, bigger than the NFL. They are there every day, in every market, in many countries, something that individual players or even whole leagues can’t say. Sure, soccer is popular, but ESPN sets trends, sets the points for discussion, and decides, more or less, what we are all watching.
That’s some serious leverage. Like all networks this day in age, they have their own awards show, the Espy’s, which, of course, are a meaningless excuse to pat themselves on the back. That’s no disrespect for ESPN, because, as I said, everyone does it. Naturally, ESPN can use their worldwide influence to get whoever they wanted to host and turn tonight’s award show into the network undoubtedly believes it should be. Naturally, they went with Rob Riggle.
Who in the hell is Rob Riggle? Thank goodness I am planning on going out with friends this evening. It’s too bad that ESPN’s most overt attempt to do good is a completely unwatchable ego-fest.
