Happy Tuesday Cougs, and we all hope you enjoyed the long holiday weekend. As a family we had a good time but laid a little low, as a couple of days were a little iffy weather-wise. But believe it or not, I decided to embrace something that I never thought I would – HARRY POTTER. That’s right, I said it – HARRY POTTER.
See, I’ve been an anti-Potter guy all along, but I never really gave it a chance. I thought the whole thing was just dumb, truth be told. I think it was because the first time I tried to watch the very first movie back in the day, I fell asleep about 15 minutes in and woke up when the credits were rolling, and I was like “What’s the big deal?”
So last week I was flipping through the channels one evening, and caught some of the last Potter film on HBO. I kind of rolled my eyes at first, but then thought “OK, I’ll give it a few minutes and see what it’s all about”. And you know what? It was good! I only watched about 20 minutes of it, right in the middle, so I didn’t get too much spoilerish-type stuff. But what I saw was impressive.
I’m a huge movie guy, some of you who actually know me personally know that. But I just never caught on to the Potter craze. I never read the books or anything, I mean who has time to read anymore? And besides, books are just major movie SPOILERS anyway, right?? But my wife has been huge on Potter since day one and kept trying to get me into it, and I would just blow it off completely. But after watching a little of the last movie, I finally told my wife that I was ready. It was time for me to watch these movies. So for four straight nights (Thursday night – Sunday night) we watched two movies a night on spectacular Blu-Ray, in all it’s 1080p glory. And I’m here to tell you today that I flippin’ LOVED IT. Just a tremendous journey from beginning to end, and it was an unexpected emotional ride along the way.
So that has nothing to do with, well, anything I guess. Maybe it’s all about giving in and letting yourself enjoy something that you never thought you possibly could? Maybe it’s about keeping an open mind on a lot of things, from something trivial like deciding to watch Harry Potter to anything really. I have to admit that while I was enjoying these movies, I felt like I had been missing out on something that looked ridiculous on the surface, but turned out to be really cool and enjoyable to the last scene. But I just wanted to share that I’m now “in” to Potter, and I got there by letting go of some really stupid hang-ups.
Moving on, some stuff to get to in the Coug universe, so let’s go.
First, not much better than to be able to use this….
That’s right, according to Ted Miller, WSU – Oregon in Seattle is a TRAP GAME! Per Ted:
What happens if Leach’s spread passing attack marries perfectly with Tuel and a deep crew of receivers against a Ducks secondary that is talented but still fairly young, particularly at cornerback? What happens if the Ducks offense, gulp, sputters with a young QB on the road?
I can see where Miller is coming from. And I think there are some outstanding points that he raised, such as the scary proposition for Oregon if the WSU passing attack is clicking after a month to get the kinks out? But I do have to say that IF THIS GAME WAS IN PULLMAN, I would be much more in the “trap camp”. But since it’s in Seattle, and let’s face it – there will probably be 20K dressed in green for that game – I think it’s probably going to be less of a trap than we might lead ourselves to believe? And it’s not like Oregon will be rattled by any neutral-site type situations, I mean they’ve done this kind of thing in recent years. But the matchup should be a fun one, with Leach and Chip Kelly locking horns, offensive genius to offensive genius. And that’s why they, you know, PLAY the games!? Here’s hoping for some real fireworks on 9/29, because on paper in May anyway, it sure looks promising/exciting.
Meanwhile, some updated pics of Martin Stadium have surfaced.
The rest of the new shots are here. While it’s kind of hard to tell the sheer size difference of what we’re seeing, well, there was a great shot shared on Facebook last week that puts it all in perspective. Check it out:
So basically in six months time, you can see the major changes. Looks pretty cool, and a good perspective-type shot of before and after!
Finally, Mike Leach was in his usual random, open, funny-type guy stuff for a radio appearance last week on ESPN 710. Leach talked the bear hunt, advice for dealing with wedding anniversaries, stuff like that. Enjoy:
