When the Tigers fell behind 5-0 in the first inning, Bobby B had an ugly feeling in his stomach. The same feeling I got when I thought about Chris Elliott making the Thanksgiving dinner with his “strong hand.”
My germs.
Then the Tigers came back in their half of the first to score three, which gave me some hope. But I still felt a little uneasy because too many times the Tigers offense would look like one about ready to explode when scoring early in the game, but then turn out to be a huge tease as they’d shut it down for the rest of the game.
Thankfully, tonight turned out to be different. When the Tigers tied it up at five, I knew there was no way the Tigers were going to lose. I got that 2006 romantic feeling where I’d do anything to boner and knew the Tigers would pull through. That’s exactly why, just as Polanco stepped into the batter’s box in the bottom of the 9th, I listened to my gut and declared for the Twitter world to see that Clete Thomas was going to be doing the walk off dance.
Moments later, it happened…
Pure swing putting the ball to the deepest part of the ball park.
Curtains.
Begin stunned walk-off trot.
Clete jumps into the crowd waiting for him at home plate.
Clete’s back is going to be sore tomorrow from that humungous five star he received.
Mob scene.
Picture perfect ending. Sweet Clete Thomas helping the Tigers win.
And then there’s our friend Billy Zane.
He’s a cool dude.
