The St. Louis Blues are second in the Central and fifth in the NHL with 99 points, but there’s still plenty of areas for concern. The team’s offense has been improved this season, but of late, it takes a while for the forwards to find their mark. When it comes to the first period, the Blues have a mental lock and haven’t been able to find the back of the net in quite some time.
It’s been nine games since the Blues scored in the first period. Specifically, the Blues have gone scoreless in the first period for the last 185:40. That’s actually pretty amazing. The team’s last first-period goal was against the Winnipeg Jets back on March 10th.
On the year, the Blues have now scored just 54 goals in the first period. That ranks 20th in the NHL. They’ve allowed 52 goals in the first period (21st in the NHL) and in recent games are finding themselves in an early hole due to an inability to light the lamp thanks to sluggish starts.
