Robert Griffin III

ESPN-U features Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III on its broadcast schedule today, Tuesday, April 10, 2012.

Jon Gruden’s Quarterback Camp with RG3 aires at 10:00 A.M and will be repeated at 5:30 P.M. this afternoon.

ESPN-U will rebroadcast the September 2, 2012 TCU at Baylor game at 10:30 A.M. The Horned Frogs, with Andy Dalton at the helm, were undefeated in their 2010 campaign, ending the season with a Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin. Baylor finished 2010 with a 7-6 record after finishing the regular season with three straight losses before being thumped 38-14 by Illinois in the Texas Bowl. Previews of the 2011 game barely mentioned Griffin, focusing instead on TCU’s challenge of rebuilding its post-Dalton offense. Baylor had not beaten a ranked team since 2004.

Griffin was starting his third season as a starter. This game served notice that 2011 would be a special season for RG3 and Baylor. The Bears rushed to a 47-23 lead by the end of the third quarter. Four unanswered touchdowns by the Frogs gave TCU a one-point lead with just over four minutes to go. Baylor’s 11-play, 60 yard drive featured a role-reversing 15 pass from WR Kendall Wright to Griffin on the third play of the series to convert a third down. The drive ended with Aaron Jones’ 37 yard field goal for a two-point lead that would stand up to TCU’s last gasp possession.

Griffin and Baylor only seemed like overnight sensations, but their path to glory started when Baylor lured coach Art Briles away from Houston in 2008. The Bears finished 2011 with a 10-3 overall record including a 67-56 win over Washington in the Alamo Bowl.

Has Baylor ever had an athletic year like 2011? First ken Starr messes with Texas and the Big 12’s realignment, then Griffin blows up to win the Heisman, the men’s basketball team makes a deep NCAA Tournament run and are outdone by the women who win the whole thing.

Almost as an afterthought, ESPN-U re-airs John Gruden’s Quarterback Camp with Stanford’s Andrew Luck at 5:00 P.M.

Luck and Griffin will be the first two players selected in the 2012 NFL Draft. The Indianapolis Colts are widely expected to make Luck as the top pick, but may be casting an eye on Griffin. The Washington Redskins traded up into the St. Louis Rams second overall Draft spot for a shot at Griffin. They plan multiple pre-Draft visits with both Luck and Griffin.

Griffin is in the Washington area today. WUSA spotted him at the Palm restaurent in Tyson, Virginia, with Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, Coach Mike Shanahan and GM Bruce Allen.
