If you are paying attention to the Brooklyn/Toronto series you know that Raptors GM Masai Ujiri dropped a “F*ck Brooklyn” curse during a pep rally before Game 1.
As the series (1-1) heads to Brooklyn, Kevin Garnett wants to make sure the Brooklyn fans give Ujiri the proper treatment:
The 37-year-old Garnett knows what he’s doing at this point in his career, 19 years and 133 playoff games in. He may have a balky back and a body begging for retirement, but he’s still the best in the NBA at motivating, pushing the right buttons. This isn’t Boston, after all. The crowd isn’t exactly programmed for another level in the playoffs.
“I’m very eager to see how (the home crowd) responds to the ‘F—- Brooklyn,’ ” Garnett said on Thursday, unprompted by any previous reference to Raptors GM Masai Ujiri. “Very eager to see how they respond to this kid (Ujiri) sitting in our arena.”
In other words, shame on Nets fans if they’re not angry for Friday’s Game 3.
“I never had a series in Brooklyn before,” Garnett said before planting another seed. “I never said ‘F— Brooklyn’ before, so we’re about to see what it’s like.”
Aww… poor KG. After playing 6 years in Boston before the most intense and smartest basketball fans on the planet, Kevin Garnett has to nudge the apathetic fans game-attendees who follow the Nets.
I expect more from a New York fan base.
But, as players who come in and out of Boston quickly realize, we get it.
As Brad Stevens told Grantland, we are amazing and unique.
Go ahead, pat yourself on the back, you deserve it.
