Jack Swarbrick Is A BOSS

For the past several years, Notre Dame has been under attack from all sides. That isn’t really anything new, but most of these attacks have been of the passive aggressive sort. Usually if one is going to attack Notre Dame, it’s pretty bold and blatantly filled with hate. We’re used to it, and I think a lot of us actually embrace it. No, what I’m talking about was the constant talk about conference expansion and Notre Dame’s place at the table.

I too am guilty of placing ND in a conference. However, I have ALWAYS maintained that I was cool with ND remaining an Independent if that’s what they really wanted. Well, we know that’s what they really wanted, but just as long as they kept their seat at the table.

It appears that they have done just that.

This important announcement wasn’t just huge for college football, it was huge for Notre Dame as it was joyously evident in the fact that it was Jack Swarbrick at the microphone telling the world.

Swarbrick has played this whole thing beautifully. He navigated ND through all of the expansion craze, battled zombies, and helped get a recommendation from the conference commissioners and himself for a 4 team seeded playoff sent to the presidents. And in effect, he has made a vast majority of Irish supporters that are pro-independence stand up and freak it all out.

So basically, if this thing passes Notre Dame will still have a chance to play for a National Title each year (by earning its way into the 4 team field for the playoff), which is what we all want.

Now, some people are still throwing their hands up in the air. OMGZ HOW CAN NOTRE DAME MAKE THESE DECISIONS AS AN INDEPENDENT OMGZ WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON IN AMERICA WHERE CONTROLLING YOUR OWN DESTINY IS ALLOWED  WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS WHY DOES NOTRE DAME GET A PASS WHY AM I A FUCKING MORON????????!!!!!!

Despite most of the media and blogosphere’s attempt to talk reason to the masses about Notre Dame’s national appeal, television appeal, and the money they help create for EVERYONE… there are still a few out there with no clue and are visibly just hatin’. Lisa Horne steps up to the table:

I reiterate: How does a football program that wants nothing to do w/ any conf. (ND) still get to vote on what other confs. should do?Lisa Horne
@LisaHorne Yes, because despite it’s lack of recent success, Notre Dame is still the biggest name – and draw- in college football. I think.SEC Football Blog
@SECblog Yes, they are a huge draw. That still doesn’t validate why the program gets to vote on what other confs. should do. They’re indie.Lisa Horne
@SECblog I’d like to see their FB program join a conf. It will diminish their perceived "special" status.Lisa Horne
@LisaHorne What about the flip side? Why should the Big Ten and SEC dictate what Notre Dame should do? Schools make the playoff, NOT leaguesFrank the Tank
@LisaHorne I’m not a Domer at all, but Notre Dame should have same ability to make the playoff as anyone else, so they should have a voice.Frank the Tank
@frankthetank111 Notre Dame’s interest is itself. Commishes have an interest in a number of schools.Lisa Horne
@LisaHorne Yes, but Jim Delany has more of an interest in protecting and playing ND than it does in protecting C-USA. It’s how it rolls.Frank the Tank
@frankthetank111 When u declare indie, ur out of an organization. U are not controlled by it & it doesn’t control u.Lisa Horne
@LisaHorne this is such a bizarre argument to me. the conferences want nd involved for the $, so nd gets a say in the process. it’s simple.Allen Kenney
@BlatantHomerism Sometimes logic in its purest form is bizarre, no?Lisa Horne
@LisaHorne why is it illogical? nd isn’t telling anyone what to do. the conferences are willingly giving nd a seat at the table.Allen Kenney
@BlatantHomerism I stand by the independent status argument. Yes, BCS shouldnt include them. I’d like a reason why.Lisa Horne
@LisaHorne the big 12 only has 10 teams. Should it have less say than the sec?Allen Kenney

What can you say? Some people don’t and will never “get it.” Fortunately, people like Staples, McMurphy, Dodd, and others do “get it,” and this kind of talk just shows how people just be hatin’.

In the end, Jack Swarbrick is a BOSS in every sense of the word. Notre Dame fans should be thanking Touchdown Jesus that we have had Jack through all of this and not Dr. Kevin White- who I’m sure would have tried to push Notre Dame into the Sun Belt two years ago.
