On Friday afternoon, the Philadelphia Eagles released running back Henry Josey after having a pretty solid training camp and preseason. Josey, despite having great numbers in preseason was released most likely due to a numbers game at the running back position and how he fits in with the Eagles.
Josey is a good running back but the knocks on him is pass protection and playing on special teams. Other than those things, he is a solid change of pace running back. In the preseason with the Eagles, Josey had 225 rushing yards on 34 carries and zero touchdowns. His only touchdown in the preseason came on a 27 yard reception versus the New England Patriots.
With that being said, Josey has found a new home. According to ESPN’s Adam Caplan, the running back was signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad. Caplan also notes that the Washington Redskins had interest in the back.
Currently, the Jaguars have four running backs listed on their depth chart. Those running backs are Toby Gerhart, Jordan Todman, Denard Robinson and Storm Johnson. Just looking at that current situation, Josey is definitely seen as a project coming in at 5-foot-8, 194 lbs. At least the Jags have solidified that because during the course of the NFL season, running back depth is very crucial.
