We all knew Jacoby Ellsbury was going for a big pay day when he signed Scott Boras as his agent a few years ago. This afternoon he signed a seven year $153 million deal with the Yankees. The deal also includes an option for an eighth year for an $16 million.
Baseball is a business and every so often the fans get startk reminders like this one. Going after a big contract is understandable to most Sox fans. They will groan about it and have some negative things to say but in the end they will be understanding. Signing with the Yankees is a different story. The Yankees symbolize evil and greed to Red Sox Nation and joining them is as traitorus as it gets.
Ellsbury was a great player in Boston and a big part of two championships. I defended him when people called him soft after his rib injury but I have no defense for him now.
Jacoby's twiter account was silent tonight about the deal. He must be too busy to say goodbye even though he somehow had time to tweet about a football game on Saturday.
Unbelievable finish to the Alabama/Auburn game!!!

Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Jacoby. I'll save my goodbyes for Salty.
