A few days ago, the New York Yankees signed star outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury. Ellsbury recently spent his entire career with the Yankees’ rival Boston Red Sox. The Yankees signed Ellsbury to a seven-year, $153 million contract. The Yanks also signed former Atlanta Brave catcher Brian McCann a few weeks ago.
With Robinson Cano likely signing with a new team, the Yankees seemed to have made the right choice by signing a big-name guy like Ellsbury. Maybe his signing will take the sting out of losing Cano for some Yankee fans. Cano is reportedly close to a deal with the Seattle Mariners, an unlikely team.
Ellsbury is coming off of an impressive year, one where he hit nine home runs, drove in 53 runs and stole 52 bases, which were the most in the majors. The Yankees seemed to make a good call on signing Ellsbury. He will add some speed to the team, especially after most likely losing Cano and Curtis Granderson to free agency.
The only problem with Ellsbury is he is somewhat prone to injuries, so the Yankees should have made a note of that. But, I believe that the Yankees made a great deal in signing Ellsbury. We will just have to wait to see the results.
