Jacoby Ellsbury’s Ceiling

The first instant I saw the Buster Olney report outlining the Red Sox willingness to include Jacoby Ellsbury in a Johan Santana deal, I nearly spit out my cereal. What could they be thinking? Why is upgrading at an area that is seemingly a strength heading into next season a higher priority than holding onto a potentially face-of-the-franchise centerfielder who thrived as a rookie in the World Series? Why sacrifice our best all-around prospect since Nomar Garciaparra (with less power)? Why not keep our ballyhooed prospects, let the Yankees overpay and prevent ourselves from ditching a stable philosophy?
Those were my initial thoughts and I was vehemently against trading Jacoby Ellsbury. We love this guy and all he brings to the table. The dashing speed, the slick glove, the uncanny ability to make contact with any pitch and turn it into a bloop double, the way he handled a World Series at age 24. He is OUR prospect. He is Theo
