The Redskins disappointed themselves (and us) with … whatever that was against the Texans last Sunday. The Jaguars and Rams are the only teams left on the schedule the ‘Skins see as beatable, to the degree that a team on a nine-game losing streak can consider any other team beatable.
The sports books give the Redskins a six-point spread. They opened the week favored by 4.5. So yeah, the betting public thinks the Redskins will win at home against one of the few franchises with worse long-term management than their own.
Hog Heaven agrees. The Redskins should win, but the Jags proved last week that they are not a team to sleep on. The Eagles snatched the thrill of victory from the agony of defeat with scoring plays of 49, 25 and 68 yards helped by a defensive score off a fumble. Jay Gruden has not shown that he can get that from his roster of playmakers.
It’s too soon to draw sweeping conclusions from one game. It’s clear, though, that Gruden is on as much a learning curve to be head coach as his quarterback is to learn a new offense. We have to learn, once again, to be patient.
The Redskins don’t know much about the Jaguars. Mark Brunell and Maurice Jones-Drew had great years there. That’s about it. Hog Heaven turns to Daniel Lago, editor of Black and Teal blog on the Fansided network to answer a few questions about the Jaguars. We are posting that conversation here, but check back often this afternoon and evening. The exchange can go into Saturday.
