On June 24th, it was called a slight groin tweak.
But as it is with Jaime Garcia, nothing is every slight; tweaks are not a thing. And so on July 5th, the Cardinals officially put the Cardinals starter on the 15-day disabled list.
Take it away Lana!
What more can really be said? Jaime Garica is our Summertime Sadness.
+++++
Posting a 1.69 ERA and surrendering only 9 runs in 7 starts, we were all optimistic that this was going to be the year that Garcia finally was able to stay on the hump. 7 starts and no shoulder issues? What do we have HERE?
Instead, the first month+ of the ’15 season he missed recovering from a previous shoulder injury should have been our harbinger. So around third base Jaime goes, waved right on to the DL.
Again.
For the 1,000,000th time. Estimated.
He only made 7 starts in 2014. He made 9 starts in 2013. He made 20 starts in 2012.
The last time he had a full season was 2011. Which doesn’t seem that long ago, until you realize that the iPad was introduced to the world in the middle of 2010.
Hell, I think we’ve all moved beyond being frustrated to just really feeling sad. How can one guy be so talented but so unable to stay healthy?
He’s a guy that you like seeing out there, but can’t count on. Kind of like a lottery scratch off ticket… fun to have – oh, and hey, 5 bucks! – but you’re not banking your retirement on it.
Get well soon, Jaime.
Hopefully you can come back for a few starts in 2015. If not, it was cool having you around the past few weeks.
We’ll just be over here crying.
