Here’s a fun piece of NHL trivia. Jake Allen was named to the league’s All-Rookie team for his work in 2014-15, but remarkably this wasn’t the first time he has received the honor. Allen was also named to the All-Rookie team back in 2012-13.
Allen’s first All-Rookie team selection in 2012-13 was due to his 15-game effort where he went 9-4-1 with a 2.46 GAA. Due to the fact Allen didn’t appear in any games in 2013-14, he was still considered a rookie in 2014-15. The rule is that a player will still be considered a rookie if they have never played more than 25 games in a single season or six plus games in back-to-back seasons. Also, any skater who is 26 or older can no longer be considered a rookie.
According to STLToday, Allen is now the second player to be named to the All-Rookie team twice. The other was netminder Jamie Storr who was named in 1997-98 and 1998-99.
