Jameer Nelson could consider Philadelphia 76ers as an option

On Thursday night, when the Orlando Magic traded for point guard Elfrid Payton, the writing was on for Jameer Nelson, who has been with the team since 2004 and over his career has been pretty solid.

Over his entire career, Nelson is averaging 12.6 points, 5.4 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game. Jameer Nelson, the former St. Joe Hawk, was waived by the Magic today and will be looking for a new home. This past season, Nelson played in 68 games and averaged 12.1 points, 7.0 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in 32 minutes per game.

With that being said, where could Nelson possibly go? Well according to John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com, he expects Nelson to consider many teams including his hometown Philadelphia 76ers.

Could Nelson possibly join his hometown Philadelphia 76ers? He could because the Sixers still lack a backup point guard but they are nowhere close to winning. The Miami Heat is definitely an option because if they can’t get Kyle Lowry, a veteran point guard like Nelson can help Shabazz Napier and Norris Cole.

The Nets is also an option because Shaun Livingston who had a solid season will have free agent offers and that could open up a spot behind Deron Williams and finally the New York Knicks. This seems unlikely as they already have Jose Calderon and Shane Larkin who they acquired in the Tyson Chandler, Raymond Felton trade.

So when you look at it, the Sixers could be Nelson’s third option as laid out currently. Will it help put butts in the seat? Yes. Will it happen? I’m not sure but it’s definitely something the Sixers front office should look at.
