It was not so long ago we witnessed the offensive line coaches at Penn State and Pittsburgh get into a bit of a heated exchange through a series of subtweets. It was gold for fans following along on Twitter, but it did get to a point where James Franklin had to pull Herb Hand back from the edge before something bad happened. But the tweet game is strong within the Penn State coaching staff judging by some tweets sent out last night.

For those unaware, one of the main themes of Pittsburgh’s recruiting tactics has centered on recruiting players to stay close to home or come to Pittsburgh to be a part of the 412-crew, a nod to the area code in Pittsburgh. Many Pitt recruiting tweets use the #412crew hashtag, so Franklin’s decision to tweet a #412 hashtag is in absolutely no way a coincidence.

I am honestly not sure how any Pitt coaches might respond to this, or whether they do at all. Either way, it was pretty funny. Of course, you have to see what Evil James Franklin had to say about it.

Well played all around.
The Penn State-Pittsburgh rivalry will be renewed in 2016 with the first of four straight games between the in-state rivals. The series starts up in Pittsburgh and alternates home stadiums through 2019. The build-up on the recruiting trail is going to be heated and a lot of fun over the course of the next year. We are just getting warmed up it seems.
