James McGuire to 2014 Badger football

Purdue Pete

Hope everyone enjoyed a good Independence Day with family, fireworks and BBQ’s but it’s time to get back to the business of counting down to Badger football!!

We’re just James McGurie, a.k.a. 56 days, away from the kick between UW and LSU and as the days grow shorter our anticipation grows more — as we’re sure yours does to. Let’s take a look at one of the more underrated players on the UW roster, shall we?

McGuire’s Story So Far:

– Played in 12 games for Wisconsin as the long snapper last season, making three tackles (one each against Iowa, Purdue and Arizona State).

– Has made 32 career starts as a long snapper, taking on six starts in his freshman season of 2010. He became the starting long snapper on punts during that time and it would’ve been seven, but the Badgers didn’t punt against Indiana that year.

–  McGuire is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection (2012, 2013).

What to Expect in 2014:

McGuire will continue to be a steady force for the Badgers kicking and punting game. Just think to yourself the last time UW had an issue with a snap in either facet of the game…I know I can’t remember a major flub from that part of the game in awhile. Credit McGuire with being one of the better at his position in the Big Ten, if not the country at this point. He’s got a future in the NFL and this will be his last season in a Badger uniform, so enjoy it while it lasts.
