Former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jason Avant was released earlier this off-season due to financial reasons, who would also think that Desean Jackson would have been released as well.
With Avant leaving the Eagles, he could find a new home with the Carolina Panthers and be an integral part of their offense. According to PFT, Avant will be visiting the Panthers tomorrow.
Unlike the Eagles, the Panthers are reeling at the wide receiver position as they released Steve Smith and lost Brandon LaFell and Ted Ginn to free agency. General Manager Dave Gettleman basically got rid of Cam Newton’s top three wide receivers from last season.
Newton will have to get used to a new receiving core that includes Jerricho Cotchery and Tiquan Underwood. If the Panthers do sign Avant, he could be used effectively as a number three wide out.
This past season, Avant started in 14 games and had 447 receiving yards and two touchdowns. I don’t know if Cam Newton will be doing back flips if they sign Avant but at least they get a very reliable wide receiver.
