The devastating loss against the Vikings was the train wreck that followed the Redskins’ bus crash.
There is a troubling lack of accountability that has been going on for some time in the Redskins organization that inevitably leads to more torturous seasons.
Regarding the players, the fans were quite a bit ahead of Jay Gruden on calling out starting Tom Compton in place of Tyler Polumbus. Yes, Compton was raw and made several mental mistakes in his first start against the Cowboys, but against the Vikings, his second start, he looked light years ahead of TyPo.
The fans list of players to be benched doesn’t stop there of course.
Next in line, literally the Line, is Chris Chester. There is no reason not to wake up and start LeRibeus ASAP. He needs to play Guard now and get ready for a possible move to Center next year. While on the Offensive Line, the coaches need to fess up to their mistake with grossly overpaying Lauvao.
Other players on the wrath list of the fans include EJ Biggers, Stephen Bowen, Tracy “always injured” Porter, Logan Paulsen and the perpetual mess at Safety.
The Redskins secondary is discussed often but it’s their small Defensive Line that is causing major issues. The Redskins need to find 330-pound beasts and fast.
The real problem of the Redskins organization is the continual lack of accountability by the coaching staff.
The focal point of the fans’ wrath right now is Defensive Coordinator Jim Haslett who by all accounts does not adjust well during a game. He is not as horrible as many fans claim, it’s just that he will never reach an “A” level besides anyone other than the Cowboys.
It’s even more unfathomable to understand how Chris Foerster is still the Offensive Line coach. The Defensive line coach also should be on a short leash. The new Running Back Coach hasn’t turned Morris into a screen pass threat and has actually brought out the worse in Morris quite frankly by making him second guess everything.
If any of you had the experience of hiring a good friend or a family member for a job, you will know what’s going on with the Redskins coaching staff.
Don’t expect anyone to be held accountable anytime soon as these are good friends in a very tight society of football elites. The Bruce Allen experiment at call replays and finding talent is an abysmal failure. But Allen, Haslett and Gruden are old Tampa Bay buddies and it’s doubtful Gruden can toss them out any easier than Mike Shanahan could have done to his son Kyle.
If Jay Gruden is reading this, here are a few more fan lessons for you:
1) In the 3 years he’s been here, Garcon has NEVER caught a deep pass and has dropped plenty. Please stop calling that play.
2) Have you noticed that Andre Roberts keeps dropping passes every game? So why go to him on 3rd down?
3) Have you noticed that Niles Paul has been on fire? Why aren’t calling more plays to him and Reed, and screens to Darrel Young? Have you considered Young as the lone back on 3rd down every once in a while since he catches screens and blocks a million times better than Helu?
4) You probably realize by now that 2012 was a freak blip, and the Redskins real identity is that of a very good, bottom of the barrel team. You have got to find coaches that can build mental toughness in these players. Not sure what happened there with Kirk Cousins, but by letting him give 7 turnovers in one game, he looked ready for a padded room in an insane asylum.
