Stats — Minor League Splits — WTM
Farrell, son of Red Sox pitching coach and former Pirate managerial candidate John Farrell, is an interesting guy to watch; he struggled to hit for much power in State College in 2008 (after he was drafted) or West Virginia in 2009, but has nine home runs already in 2010 with a nice .500 slugging percentage. He strikes out a lot and doesn’t walk all that much and is a bit old for Bradenton at the age of 23, but he is making strides and he doesn’t have as big a home/away split as some players on the Bradenton team do. He crushes lefties and doesn’t really have a position on the field (third baseman by trade, likely a future first baseman out of necessity), so maybe someday he can be Steve Pearce. Ringing endorsement!
