Jerome Williams Makes History Against Oakland

Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez is 4-0 against divisional rival Oakland A’s this season. Close behind is Jerome Williams with three wins.

But let’s face it, the Philadelphia Phillies righty is no Hernandez…even though Williams is the one that made history Saturday night against Oakland with a 3-0 victory. You see, according to Elias Sports Bureau, the 32-year-old became the first pitcher to beat one team three times while pitching with three different teams.

“That is crazy,” Williams said after the game. “For one, you would never think that you would face the same team. Obviously I was with the AL West so I knew I was going to face them, but coming over to the Phillies in interleague play, you didn’t think you were going to face the team again. It’s a good feat.”

In case you were wondering, Williams won his only game as a member of the Houston Astros April 26 against the A’s. He’d end up being released July 8. On July 25, two weeks after signing with the Texas Rangers, he would win his second game against the A’s. Philadelphia would claim the pitcher off waivers August 10…and you know the rest of the story.
