The Jets made a questionable hire in electing to hire Adam Gase as head coach, and the team clearly has some explaining to do.
Gase’s tenure in Miami started out OK, but eventually went downhill, as he appeared to lose the locker room, and his control over the roster/decision to trade away the team’s biggest playmakers on each side of the ball (Ndamukong Suh, Jarvis Landry) the same season was questionable at best.
Now, the Jets have hired a re-tread from the same division they play in, no less. To their credit, Gase should be able to work well with quarterback Sam Darnold, who will be entering his sophomore campaign later this year. But it puts a lot of pressure on the team to hire a savvy defensive coordinator, and with Vance Joseph now off the board, it’ll be tough to do that.
Jets GM Mike Maccagnan issued a statement on the Gase hiring Friday.
