Jimmer’s getting hitched, Thornton has options and Cisco plays for Team DR

There is very little Kings related news to pass on about the off-season/lockout at this point.  We are working on a few things, but until they materialize, here are a couple of crumbs to chew on.

  • Jimmer's getting hitched, Thornton has options and Cisco plays for Team DRJimmer Fredette has proposed to Whitney Wonnacott and she has accepted.  How do we know this?  The wonderful world of Twitter.  Congrats to the happy couple.
  • Our friend Tom Ziller over at Sactown Royalty is slightly concerned with the deal Wilson Chandler signed this weekend in China.   Why would Ziller be concerned over the Nuggets losing one of their small forwards?  The Kings have their own restricted free agent in Marcus Thornton and if this whole lockout thing continues, will Thornton be forced to chase yuan or euros?  I spoke with Marcus Thornton before the lockout began and he was pretty confident that he would be fine financially during the lockout.  But Ziller’s question about what a season abroad would mean for Thornton’s status as a restricted free agent is very interesting.
  • Francisco Garcia is starting alongside fellow NBA player Al Horford for the Dominican Republic at the FIBA Americas Championship.  In the qualifying round today, Cisco scored 7 points on 3-9 shooting and dished out 3 assists as his Dominican team beat Cuba 90-60.  Team DR  takes on Venezuela tomorrow, Canada on Thursday and Brazil on Friday in a wild back-to-back-to-back-to-back week of qualifying.
  • Speaking of Francisco Garcia, Nate Hughart over at Evil Cowtown Inc. broke down the plusses and minuses of the Kings using an amnesty clause on their longest tenured player following the current lockout.  If there is an amnesty clause in the new CBA, the Kings are bound to have this same discussion behind closed doors.  The post is from August 10th, but still worth the read and I completely agree with his assessment.
