The Bulls’ Jimmy Butler is a rising star in the NBA and, sometimes with stardom, comes silliness. For example:
A guy who spent the entire season talking about leadership showed none in a game the Bulls absolutely had to win Tuesday, looking disengaged at both ends and going scoreless until it was too late with five minutes left.
“Jimmy Butler has to play better (and) Jimmy Butler has to do whatever it takes to help his team win,” the Bulls shooting guard said a day later.
This is part of what it will take: Jimmy Butler eventually needs to grasp that, even as wonderfully amusing as he finds himself, Jimmy Butler can rub people the wrong way, including teammates. Jimmy Butler needs to understand that Jimmy Butler the supposed team leader openly discussing summer plans to work out with Rose before the Bulls actually are eliminated was the oral equivalent of walking off the court early.
Jimmy Butler can begin making the Bulls better once he remembers how much humility and hard work it required to make Jimmy Butler an All-Star back before the kid from Tomball, Texas, went Hollywood as hell, to borrow an old Joakim Noah descriptor. Jimmy Butler the maximum-contract player worth $95 million should go back to being Jimmy Butler who required minimum coaching.
There will be some level of roster shake-up in Chicago. The obvious move is Derrick Rose, unless management is really put-off by Butler OR they get an offer they can’t refuse.
My question for Celtics fans… are you turned off by Jimmy Butler’s shenanigans to the point you wouldn’t want him in Boston?
