Jimmy Howard Tries Out for Vacant Tigers Catcher Position

With both Alex Avila and Gerald Laird struggling this year, the Tigers are looking for help at catcher by any means possible. Apparently this even includes Mr. Illitch’s other sports franchises. Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard spent some time in the Tigers bullpen today catching for Justin Verlander.

Verlander was surprised with Howard’s performance. “I was really impressed, especially with breaking balls,” Verlander said. “I thought he’d be really good with fastballs ’cause not much movement, similar to a puck, but with breaking balls he did a much better job than I anticipated.”

Good stuff Jimmy, now hit the batting cages.
