The Phillies are trading Joe Blanton to the Red Sox now that they have Cliff Lee. This gives the Red Sox another solid starting pitcher should anyone get hurt but it also means they now have six starters not including Wakefield. Looks like Blanton is going to be pitching out of the pen to start the season, or more likely Theo will flip Blanton for some good relief. This way Epstein guarantees the Yanks do not get him. No word yet on who is being traded to Philly.
UPDATE: The Boston Herald reports the talks are not serious and no deal is in place.
