After like five days with 41 men on the 40-man roster, the Pirates finally made the corresponding move to Kevin Correia’s signing; designating Joe Martinez for assignment. Martinez, you’ll likely recall, was acquired in the Javier Lopez trade and is more or less right-handed rotation filler/fodder, so it makes sense that he’s the guy to get moved off the roster over someone with at least some upside like Chris Leroux, who the Pirates probably want to watch pitch in spring training before they make a decision about him.
