Today, the Philadelphia Phillies have made a ton of roster moves in correspondence to their current five game losing streak. So far today, the Phils have sent down infielder Cesar Hernandez to Triple A after his short stint with the big league club. Replacing Hernandez on the roster, the Phillies have recalled infielder Michael Martinez.
Another roster move that the team has done is that starting pitcher Tyler Cloyd was sent down to Triple A and in his place the Phillies recalled left handed reliever Jake Diekman who had minor success with the big league club last season. Jake Diekman will join the Phillies on Friday when they take on the Colorado Rockies.
Finally, even though this move has not been completed yet, the Phillies announced that starting pitcher John Lannan has completed his rehab stint and will be activated on Monday and will go against his former team in the Washington Nationals. This will be Lannan’s first time pitching since April 17th; so far his record this season is 0-1 with a 6.14 ERA. But at least having Lannan in this starting rotation might help the Phillies get some wins at this point because they are slowly falling in the standings.
Now with Lannan being activated on Monday, the Phillies will need to clear a roster space and Antonio Bastardo might be sent down based on his performance this season but let’s face it the entire bullpen has been terrible except Jonathan Papelbon.
