The list of walking wounded grew longer as the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Tyler Johnson joined the injured group of Victor Hedman, Ryan Callahan, Nikita Kucherov, Steven Stamkos and Anton Stralman. This could be another big blow for the Bolts playoff run.
Late in the first period Johnson was motoring towards the Montreal goal when goalie Mike Condon covered the puck. Johnson was checked by Canadiens defenseman Greg Pateryn just as the whistle blew and he landed awkwardly as he hit the boards hard. He sprawled on the ice for a few seconds before being helped to the dressing room by the Lightning trainers:
Johnson didn’t return for the second period as Tampa Bay announced that he had suffered an upper-body injury and would be unable to return to the game.
The Lightning will have a few days for Johnson to get better as they are slated to faceoff against the Detroit Red Wings in round one of the Eastern Conference playoffs on Wednesday or Thursday at Amalie Arena.
