Johny Hendricks (9-1) longed for a quick return to the UFC Octagon and his wish was granted as he has accepted to take on T.J. Waldburger on the preliminary card at UFC Fight Night 24.  The fight came on short notice but fortunately, Hendricks was in the gym training after seeing a scheduled fight at UFC on Versus 3 earlier this month against Paulo Thiago get scrapped when the Brazilian was injured in training camp.

One of the founding members of Arlington-based Team Takedown, Hendricks a former Division I wrestling champion had been on a tear in his mixed martial arts career going undefeated until this past December when he dropped a decision to Rick Story at the TUF 12 Finale.  It was Hendricks’ first loss as a professional and the experience prompted him to invite Story down here to North Texas to help broaden his game.

“I hate losing, but sometimes it’s a good thing,” Hendricks said in an interview with MMAJunkie Radio. “Then you get to step back and really focus on what you’re doing. If I would have won that fight, would I have fixed those holes? Maybe the next guy I’m fighting is better. Then I get really messed up.”
