Jon Lester is AN ALL STAR! Jon Lester was named by Ron Washington to the All Star roster on Sunday afternoon replacing Felix Hernandez on the roster since he pitched on Sunday and would be unavailable to pitch. Lester was selected because he was the next highest rated pitcher on the player ballots. Since Lester is on the DL, he was replaced by Ricky Romero. However, that still means Lester had his bags packed when he left Fenway yesterday to head to Arizona.
That makes the amount of Sox heading to the All Star Game officially SIX: Adrian Gonzalez, David Ortiz, Jacoby Ellsbury, Josh Beckett and Jon Lester.
On a related note, Josh Beckett threw a side session on Sunday and was deemed ok to pitch in the All Star Game if he is called upon.
