Jon Lester left last night’s game after 4 innings of scoreless work with a left lat strain. Lester said after the game he didn’t think it was a huge issue, hoped to avoid going on the DL and didn’t think he’s miss a lot of time. I was pretty skeptical that he wouldn’t need a DL even with the All Star Break.
It was announced this afternoon that Lester is heading off to get an MRI to see the extent and severity of the injury, but no matter what…Lester is being placed on the disabled list. Scott Atchison has been recalled from Pawtucket and will pitch out of the bullpen. Alfredo Aceves will start in Lester’s spot on Sunday and will probably remain in the rotation until either Lester or Buchholz return from the DL.
