Even though the Boston Red Sox dropped close to $200 million on Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval on Monday, word on the street is that the term is still pursuing bringing back former ace Jon Lester.
And if Lester did find himself back in BeanTown, he wouldn’t have to introduce himself to Ramirez considering the two men shared a lot of time in the minors, traveling from town to town from 2002 to 2005, last playing together for the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs.
Just don’t ask the pair to go get dinner with one another.
“I’d have a better chance of being struck by lightning than me and him getting a pizza together,” Lester told reporters at the 2010 All-Star Game. “You can take that for what it’s worth. But there was no chance on God’s green earth that I was getting a pizza with him.”
What does that even mean? Sure, at the time, the two hadn’t shared the same space in nearly five years, but now, more than nine years from when they last were teammates, could Lester’s stance on sharing pizza hinder his chances of returning to the Red Sox? Perhaps Pablo Sandoval, who seemingly hasn’t missed any meals, can bring the two guys together.
Stay tuned.
