Former Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon has been an absolute mess since being acquired by the Washington Nationals, and it seems the tension hit a boiling point with the Nationals no longer in the postseason hunt.
In the eighth inning of today’s game in Nationals Park against the Phillies, Papelbon had some sort of verbal exchange with Bryce Harper as the Nationals franchise player was heading back to the dugout after popping out. The conversation continued as Harper stepped into the dugout. That’s when Papelbon popped off, shoving Harper back against the wall as Nationals players came in to break up the messy situation.

Amazingly, Nationals manager Matt Williams sent Papelbon back out for the ninth inning with the game tied 4-4. Papelbon imploded as the Phillies knocked him around en route to an eight-run inning. Andres Blanco hit a two-run home run to help cement the win, which ended up being a 12-5 final.
The Phillies have long been out of the postseason conversation (from Game 1 I guess), so we’ve been left to laugh at the downfall of other teams around the division and league. Few teams have been more fun to watch fall apart as the Nationals. So thanks for the fun laugh on Sunday, Nationals.
