Jordan Leopold will need surgery on his hand and is expected to miss approximately two months. The news from Jeremy Rutherford details that Leopold has tendon damage on his first knuckle on his right hand and will need surgery to repair the ligament.

With Leopold out of the lineup, Ian Cole slides up and will be a regular member of the St. Louis defense.

Leopold's absence will be felt. Though he hasn't been the best defenseman (that's difficult to do with Alex Pietrangelo and Kevin Shattenkirk in front of you), he has been a reliable skater. He's one of those guys you may go an entire game without mentioning and that's usually a good thing. He quietly gets the job done.

Cole is a nice replacement to have, but now you have to start wondering about the team's depth at defense. Now that Cole is a regular, who would get the call if another defenseman goes down with an injury?
