Philadelphia– The Eagles will be kicking off the 2016 season on Thursday with a preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, when the Birds take the field they will be minus one key part to the offense, Jordan Matthews.

Matthews was injured on Friday when rookie Jalen Mills hit him low in practice during a live period. The Eagles’ head coach, Doug Pederson, expects Matthews to be out a few weeks saying that Matthews has a strain and there was no structural damage to the knee. He could return by week three of the preseason and should be ready to go by Week 1 against the Browns.

Matthews, the third year receiver out of Vanderbilt, is the most productive member of the receiving corp that returns this year. He had a career high 997 receiving yards last year. The Eagles are hoping that he is quick healer so he can resume practicing and work with quarterbacks on timing to enhance his totals from last year.

Time will tell how long it take will Jordan to get back on the practice field. Hopefully sooner than later for the sake of the passing game and the Eagles. All Eagles’ fans knew this would be a rebuilding year but bumps in the road like this hurt. Eagles’ fans know well that injuries happen and it’s time for the next man to step up in the meantime.
